While making plenty of moves this offseason, the Atlanta Falcons have made two more by signing former Redskins cornerback Josh Wilson and former Jaguars safety Dwight Lowery. The additions of the two now-new Falcons is an obvious attempt to add depth to the current roster.
Wilson, 29, will put up a good fight in the battle for a starting job, but will most likely either be the number three or four cornerback on the depth chart, which would put him behind Desmond Trufant, Robert Alford and Robert McClain.
Josh Wilson stats since 2007:
2007 (12 GP, 7 TCK)
2008 (16 GP, 69 TCK, 1 SACK, 3 FF, 2 FR, 4 INT, 1 TD, 9 PD, 1 STF)
2009 (12 GP, 41 TCK, 1 SACK, 1 FR, 2 INT, 2 TD, 13 PD, 1 STF)
2010 (14 GP, 37 TCK, 1 FR, 3 INT, 1 TD, 14 PD, 2 STF)
2011 (16 GP, 48 TCK, 1 FF, 1 FR, 2 INT, 15 PD)
2012 (16 GP, 54 TCK, 1 SACK, 3 FF, 2 FR, 2 INT, 13 PD)
2013 (16 GP, 68 TCK, 2 SACK, 2 FF, 3 FR, 1 INT, 7 PD, 5 STF)
Lowery, 28, is a solid backup along with Zeke Motta. Accompanied by Wilson, he is a move made with the thought of improving the depth of the Falcons especially after Pro Bowl safety Thomas Decoud was cut by Atlanta in the early stages of the offseason. Lowery was injured in week three of last season by what some would call a 'cheap shot' by former Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Golden Tate.
Dwight Lowery's stats since 2008:
2008 (16 GP, 54 TCK, 5 FF, 1 INT, 16 PD, 1 STF)
2009 (13 GP, 22 TCK, 1 FR, 3 INT, 9 PD)
2010 (14 GP, 16 TCK, 2 SACK, 2 FR, 3 INT, 7 PD)
2011 (13 GP, 28 TCK, 1 SACK, 1 FR, 2 INT, 8 PD, 2 STF)
2012 (9 GP, 26 TCK, 1 FR, 1 INT, 4 PD, 1 STF)
2013 (3 GP, 4 TCK, 1 FR, 1 PD, 1 STF)
